  Chronic Pain

In normal situations, pain acts as a warning system to alert us to potential harm to our bodies. It prevents permanent harm by alerting us to react and remove the source of pain. However, when pain persists or recurs over a prolonged period of time (more than six months) , it is said to be chronic or intractable pain --it no longer serves a purpose, but has established a life of it's own. In this case it no longer protects, but interferes with our lifestyles and functionality.

What causes chronic pain ?

Pain is caused by chemical and electrical signals sent from nerve endings in the affected area of our body, through the tracts of the spinal column, to the brain, where we perceive them as pain.

Common treatments for chronic pain:

There are many ways to alleviate chronic pain, but the main objective is to do this in a safe, affordable and unintrusive way while maintaining the best possible functional state of the patient.
